With waters warmed by the gulf stream the local coastline has a remarkably varied and exotic marine fish life and vegetation.

Bird Watching

Waterford Wildlife writes a weekly article on the wildlife of Waterford for a local City newspaper and offers advice and guidence to community bodies on their local biodiversity when requested insofar as up-to-date information is available for particular locations and species. Waterford Wildlife is non commercial, non-political and non profit-making. www.waterfordwildlife.com

www.waterfordbirds.com provides up-to-date and archival information on the birds of Co. Waterford. Some records of migrant or scarcer insect species, cetaceans and less commonly seen mammals etc are also included

Fenor Bog - was designated as Waterford's first National Nature Reserve in 2004.
The bog contains mainly birds of the open country and bog land. Breeding Snipe, Cuckoo, Stonechat, warblers, Reed Bunting and Barn Owls all occur here.
To a lesser extent the Short-eared owl has also been seen here. Birds: Snipe, Cuckoo, Stonechat, warblers, Reed Bunting, Barn owls.

Dunmore East, Waterford - The steep cliffs overlooking Dunmore East harbour is one of the very few urban locations that provides good access and easy observation of the lively, colourful and noisy Kittiwake colony.

Clonea, Dungarvan, Waterford - An excellent location for viewing Waders. 1,000 Barnacle Geese can be seen wintering from November to March.

Ardmore, Waterford - The spectacular from the cliff walks.

Nire Valley Area, Waterford - Good show of Dippers, Great Wagtails and Kingfishers.

Wildlife Centre

logo tbay surf and eco centreTramore beach is one of Europe's largest intertidal lagoons and has a unique oceanic ecosystemwhich visitors can learn about at the exhibition in the Watchtower at T-Bay Surf & Wildlife Centre, Tramore, Waterford

Established in 1967, the centre run regular Eco Hikes, guided by on-staff Ecologists, that explore and explain the beach, dunes and tidal pools. Whale and Dolphin watching with expert guides are also available.

The on-staff Ecologists are passionate about Tramore's unique oceanic Eco-System and enjoy sharing their knowledge of this fragile environment.
